---there's only a handful of exo-m shots in this mv and i'm reviewing the exo-k vers. so...yeah. sorry about that (i don't know how different the exo-m version is in terms of costume.) but my love for exo remains strong---
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookay so i said i'd start going over some faves because nothing's caught my eye really recently. and this has gotta be like, one of my all time favourites. i love exo, exo are fabbity fab and ughhh man. this song is great (imo, i know a lot of people don't like it), the concept's great, the music video is good. my only issue with the music video is the individual shots that sm does with their groups which often have really weird costume/hair choices and the lighting/editing does something weird to the members faces...idk. it's like man make it hd i wanna see the pores on their face...don't be smudging them out like that. it's like m8 i know you're lying about tao and kai's skintone there is no way it's like that.
so, first things first. we're first presented with the *careless careless* scene and for a dreadful moment we're a bit worried that this might be the theme...are they going to dance in those dresses? or maybe they're gonna shed them off dramatically, like joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat, and underneath there will be fab sparkly glamour jumpsuits...alas. no. i'm still not sure what the purpose of this was but it was pretty cool.

so there's two white rooms, one which has all these cubist shapes criss-crossed over it and another, more simpler one, with hexagonal shapes in the ceiling. let me start by saying that in terms of costume this is my least favourite combination/scene. in kpop mv's, for me, the white room thing is either hit or miss and this one kinda hits it tbh. it's problematic putting a load of people in a white room because it can look too harsh and too artificial (even for sm!) 
but, thank heavens, these rooms have some texture and are quite interesting to look at. also, the costumes don't contrast so much as to look bad. i don't really like the strange bleached out/washed out hippie (?) blue tee kai wears. idk, i just don't like it here. but i love baekhyun's outfit and i love the stripes included. it comes together to balance the whole thing out quite well, i also love the ripped/torn jeans...they are totally out of place here and i should hate it because they have an organic/raw look to them and everything else is super tech-shinee-artificial but idk. i love texture.
the second white room is similar, and is only in a few shots. again, i love the overall colour scheme; since the majority of the mv is shot with a blue glow over it, to balance out these harsh white rooms they've used a lot of blue and blue tinted things. i also love these brown trousers yixing's wearing that just bring a bit of variety. like i keep saying, white sucks out colour and contrast so it's easy to look very boring. if the whole mv had been shot in these two rooms it would have been boring, but these smalls shots put in between the other, darker and more textured rooms give the mv variety. well done sm.
ahhh now we're talking. sm loves their phallic towers huh. these kind of rooms always remind me of a industrial post apocalyptic new york? idkk? but yeah, the room itself is interesting and fits with the vibe of the mv. things i particularly like about this scene, aside from the overall effect; everything about chanyeol. his hair, his outfit. his legs.

putting one person in all black while other people aren't often annoys me, but chanyeol is so much in the back and there is a balance throughout the group so you don't really find yourself being like "goddamn his outfit is distracting, why's he in all ___"
sehun's jacket here has tassels. yes.
all the other members have black in their outfits so it all harmonises well. i love everything about kai in this shot as well. damn i miss those geometric harem pants. there's also a few leather gloves/bondagy things that i just love. i love it when mblaq does it. i love nu'est doing it. i just love it ok, more men in incriminating bondagey things.

and then there's the "screamo" scene in the same room. i'm pretty sure this is the first appearance of the blue jacket, but it's actually more like what i saw sehun wearing during promotion and live perfs. (or maybe it's the lighting? idk it seems less offensive here) but yeah it's a gorgeous jacket and the colour scheme is still the same. blacks, metallics, flashes of gold and beige.  |

similar in colour scheme is the vaguely dusty desert room. there's less metallics and more beige and rough texture.
and then the outdoors/couples/single shots. kyungsoo's little trendy body in those cute little skinny jeans. also, notice the shorts n leggings combo. and there's the branding again. they've kinda stopped doing that recently and it's just like whyyy? i understand the logo and concept's change over time but they can still use an exo logo? 
they seem to have moved to putting member names on the backs of everything...which would've been a better thing to do when they debuted? surely? when we were getting to know them? idk. idk why they are doing that now. but they seem to have dropped the symbol/buttons/jewellery which is sad.

like i don't even know what this half job/arm piece is...i kinda wish there was a full shot of it. but then again i don't. i know what sm are like with their weird concoctions. at least it's not a weird sleeveless jacket. it's like, i like the left side...and i like the right side...but i kinda wish the right side was also on the left side? skinny tight leather sleeves; hmmm...yes.

also there's this thing yixing wears...like i'm not sure if it's the exact same print as the jackets they wore in
promotions later (the one xiumin wears at one point? with splashes of colour in it) but i like it, it's interesting. it's a bit star trek in shape and i don't really like it when kpop does those really angular jackets that just don't bring out shape in the way they should-they can look like they're swamping the figure. but i like this, lol.

this is one of baekhyun's solo shots, this jacket is pretty amazing. i wish we could have seen more of it. also, the addition of a hood is different, and kinda hints back to the *careless careless* bit. i love anything leathery with studs and stuff on it, so yay. 
this is the jacket i was talking about. sm seems to have several of these, i've seen it with red/pink and blue accents. it doesn't make me crazy about it but i like that it adds visual interest, instead of everything being metallic or leather etc. (coincidentally it's not like the aforementioned yixing jacket at all, it's completely different.) |

| i LOVE the layered collar. nobody seems to want to do anything with the structure of jackets?? like let's change the shape, mix it up a bit. this is the first and only hint towards the stylists trying to translate the themes into costume. fire=fluid, layers, gold. |
literally my only criticism about this mv/concept is that they could have utilised their concept a bit better through costume. they absolutely hit the mark with the sm and exo branding but i wish they could have brought in some elements of each individual members powers. (i know you're like "but how would they do wind/healing etc" but like, maybe sehun couldv'e been wearing something quite sheer (NOTHING...HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WEARING NOTHING *AHem*), like a chiffon layered thing and when they did the windy bits his top would emphasise that?) it's so minimal though that i haven't docked any points from the rating and is more of a suggestion than a criticism.
